EDU 3234

We almost completing the book assigned in this EDU 3234 course. By doing so, I have learned that we can do research on various literary works. When we do research on Tales, Myths, Legends, we can know what the belief and culture of people who live on that particular era of which the works were written. Autobiography also interesting to do research. Autobiography is a story of a person’s life written by the person himself/herself. It also highlight certain issues for example the person’s hardships that they have to face and also glory that they have achieved. For that particular reason, it is good to do some research on autobiography as it helps to educate and give inspiration to readers. Apart of that, I also learned that speech also give big impact to the readers and I strongly agree that we can do research on it. Besides that, The Essay also a relevant text for us to do research on as the writer shares his or her experience to us. Next week we are going to learn on Parody. I think that would be interesting as it is about mocking, sarcastic kind of things.hehe…All in all, from this course I get new knowledge on how to do research and the benefits that we get from it. Besides that I also being exposed on various literary texts that we can do research. It is a good course especially to language teacher.

Final Step...hehe

Today I just received back my first draft of research paper from Dr.Jaya. Luckily he said that my research is good and can pass up to him whenever I want since I have finished up the research. I just need to make some edition and then submit the paper to him. Though according the requirements we need to pass it up the research on Week 13 and this week is only week 11. My group and I have discussed that we will submit our research paper on week 12 as we also attached with other assignments. I think that is the end of the process of completing the research paper. I have learned a lot through position and research paper. Indirectly I have open my eyes to see that sometimes we need to search and comment other people works as every works have its own connotative and denotative meaning. We, as the readers need to ‘search’ by ourselves the meaning that has been implied by the writers. It can be discovered through the authors’ biography; does their lifestyle have influenced the way they write and do we be able to ‘see’ what they ‘see’.

Presentation of my position paper

Since I have submitted my position paper, today is the day that I have to present my paper to the whole class. Since my thesis statement is ‘Edna’s rebellious act is a form of self discoveries ‘so I just presented what are Edna’s rebellious acts that eventually lead her to discover new things that appeals to her. By the end of class, Miss Baiti has announced our marks for position paper. I just got 13 marks and i am quite dissapointed with it. Maybe my discussions on the issues are not very strong. :)

Finally!Submitted the first draft

Today i have submitted my first draft to Dr.Jaya. Actually it is not really a draft as i have finished the whole part. Recently i am quite busy so i decide to finish it up. Moreover, i just need to organize information for author's biography which i downloaded from internet. I just taking time on the discussion of the issue and also the implications on education. Hopefully Dr.Jaya will approve my paper.

Process of completing my research paper

Since i have to pass up my first draft 2 more days, i have to burn my midnight oil try to finish up my research paper. I also have other assignment to finish up as well. So, i decides to complete my research paper within these two days. I just came back from library searching for books that relates to the issue of women's independency especially on the era of Kate Chopin's. I could not find any books that really suits my issue. But i have found a book that really captured my interest. The book entitled 'The world of Harry Potter'. Suddenly i feel like changing my research. I want to make comparison between Harry Potter and Lord of The Rings and what can both of the stories be implemented on our education. But i could not find any book that relates with Lord of the rings. I will put this idea on hold first as i have already started my research paper. If Dr.Jaya doesn't approve my research, i will definitely change it to my second idea. Since the library could not help me much, so i'm surfing the net and i think it is easier to search information from the net rather than books. With just one click, you can get a lot of information. But then, you have to choose the information intelligentlly. I just search information for author's biography and decides to use my own interpretation regarding the issue of indepency. Hopefully, i can finish up my paper within these 2 days. :)

FiRst MeeTing With Dr.JaYA

As what have been promised, I met Dr. Jaya today since he also just finished organizing MICELT. He’s not so busy this time around. In this meeting, Dr.Jaya asked what my friends and I want to write for our research paper. Luckily I have already think of the idea.(”,). I’m the last person to tell him what I am interested in. I realised that three from my groups interested in taking Kate Chopin’s work. So, I tell Dr.Jaya that I do not want to use Kate Chopin’s work in my research. But he advised me that if my interest is on Kate Chopin’s work, I should proceed with it. Apart from that, the three of us are not doing the same issues.I told him that i'm interested in raising the issue of women's freedom and independency in Kate Chopin's works. Since we have been late for 2 weeks, so he expected us have already start our research paper. He asked for our first draft already. Since we all haven't start yet, we persuade Dr.Jaya to postponed the submittion.As agreed, we can pass up our first draft after Chinese New Year holidays.:)

Supporting points approved!!!Lalala

hhe..miss siti has approved my supporting points for my position paper. I managed to get 4 points and she said there are strong points as i managed to argue in it. Actally 'The Awakening' really capture my interests and because of that story i feel like reading all of Kate Chopin's works. Luckily when i went to Kinokuniya i managed to get her selected short stories for only rm19.90. Then i realised that 'The Awakening' is the only short story that in 125 pages, quite long for a short story kan... the rest are only around 5-10 pages. Kate Chopin is now listed on my favourite writers as she dealt with woman's issues..lalala

WorKiNg WiTh ThE SuppOrTiNg PoiNtS

Thesis statement has been approved and now I have to come out with supporting pints to justify my statement. For the second time I need to read the story once again as the first one I just read in getting the gist of the story. For the second time I have to read more scrutinized as I have get information to support my points and also to include textual evidence in the paper. I’ve just managed to find four supporting points and tomorrow I am going to show my points to miss Baiti and hopefully my points will be approved. By the way, it is hard to differentiate my points as all the points seem quite similar. Later if my points have approved, I will let you guys know k…

I’m under Dr.Jaya for the research paper and our first meeting is in the second week of February and that means I have to start working by myself as Dr.Jaya busies with the MICELT thing. So I did not have any comment yet regarding the research paper but I have to start now thinking what I want to do as the other group have met their supervisors. I cannot follow the other supervisor as Dr.Jaya’s style might be different from them and at the end of the day he is the one who is going to give marks right….:)

YES!!!!

Creating a good thesis statement is quite a challenge for me but luckily my thesis statement has been accepted at my first attempt. I just wonder why we can’t use question as the thesis statement so it will be easier and clearer in showing argument. Majority of my friends have to rewrite their thesis statement more than once. I like doing the position paper as I myself take control of my paper and I can express myself freely without being bound with right or wrong answers as all answers are accepted in appreciating literature. I have passed the first level of completing the position paper and now I am in the process of creating supporting points for my argument. By the way, my thesis statement is ‘Edna’a rebellious act is a form of self-discovery in The Awakening by Kate Chopin’. Erm, if you have any ideas…I appreciate it…J

Working on thesis statement

‘The Awakening’ by Kate Chopin, the text that I’ve chosen for Position Paper. I really interested in that story though we did not discuss the novel thoroughly in Pn.Juridah’s class last semester. So, I need to do my own research and opinion regarding that particular text. You know what, I went to Kinokuniya just to get the text book and luckily I have found a book entitled’ The Awakening and Selected Stories of Kate Chopin’…and it’s only RM19.90!!!:) Within 2 days I have finished read the novel, I mean just the one entitle ‘The Awakening’ ( as I did not have so much time,quite busy this semester). So, I found that the title of the novel itself brought a very deep meaning. The Awakening…just like the awakening of Edna from 28 years, leading her life in closed eyes…It is during summer in Grand Isle that Edna realized what she really wants in her life….but she has acted in the other way of what society expected her to be…and her actions can be considers as rebellious acts that in turn helped her to discover what she really wants…So, I came out with a thesis statement: Edna’s rebellious act is a form of self discovery in ‘The Awakening’ by Kate Chopin. Luckily my thesis statement has been approved by Dr.Edwin.

Translating what had happened to Daedalus and Icarus in ‘Daedalus and Icarus’ into Modern English is quite an easy task regardless the other story that also involves in the text. Our next task is to come out with one while-reading activity which my partner and I have worked on it. The painting ‘Fall of Icarus’ also has its own beauty and also contains underlying meaning. When Dr.Edwin throw us the question why the artist draw Icarus in such a small space if compares to other and the painting is called ‘The fall of Icarus’ where the main character take only a small space in the painting. Then I realized that the the fall of Icarus is unnoticeable by the surrounded people and ordinary things go as usual.

MyTh ANd LegEnD

Why we learn about myth and legends? I guess one particular reason is because myth and legend close to our belief and culture. I think myth and legend bring impact to one’s life though they are not real but some people still believe the existence of them. Besides that, I think the reason people create myth and legend is one of the way to educate people; people could learn from what happened in the stories. What do you think?
Even in ‘Daedalus and Icarus’ also people can learn that human cannot compete with God’s real creation. We know that Daedalus has invented wings just like what birds have but does he succeed or not? Just like at this current era where human has crossed the border by trying to take over God’s work. .cloning is one of it…What do you guys think?

FiRst ExPosURe

New semester has begun, as usual in first week of the semester Dr.Edwin brief to us about the EDU 3234, Readings and Project Work for Teaching Literature in ESL Context course; what the course is all about, what tasks that need to be completed in order to fulfill the course requirements. Looking at all the tasks, suddenly I cannot see shopping complex,lalala…as mostly I think the task will keep me busy this semester but luckily we don’t have examination for this paper…personally I think the tasks that we have completed are relevant and benefiticial to students especially teacher trainee. Students need to practice to think critical and creatively as that are need in order to succeed in this paper. Hopefully I can gain as much knowledge form this course.
